Recently I experienced that Firebug constantly opens in a new window when clicking on the Firebug icon inside Firefox. For some reason I couldn't figure out how to remove/disable this "feature". But finally I found the way.. Solution:
  1. Open Firebug (in a new window)
  2. Select / enable the Firebug window, eg. by clicking inside the Firebug window
  3. Go to the menu and deselect: "View" > "Options" > "Always open in new window"
Now the Firebug is back to being embedded inside Firefox. GREAT!

For me - I prefer it in a new window, as I put it on my left monitor, with the browser in the right - The problem is every page I load it opens, not when I click the firebug icon to open it as it used to work. This only started with their recent 1.4 upgrade. It is enough for me to uninstall it, and never use it again. This is a horrible problem with no solution, and should have been solved before releasing it to the public.

unbelievable crap - the new firebug won't let me edit CSS styles anymore. Goodbye firebug.
